Winter coat project – finally some progress!

Ok, I know my intent was to have this all finished and wrapped up for Ellie’s first Christmas. The best laid plans and all that…..

We do have progress though! The template was all sewn together (bar sleeves – they need some adjustment on the puff at the top). After trying on for size we need some adjustment; she’s a bit more barrel shaped around the middle than my pattern allowed for!

I also need to adjust the shape of the heart lapel. It turned out a bit too detached from the rest of the breast and I think I can do better to get it looking more how I imagined it.

The pattern sewed up lovely though and I am now plucking up the courage to take scissors to the velveteen and go for it!

I also made some progress in the button department! Found some gorgeous big filigree detailed adornments. I think they are going to set the coat off lovely. If anything, it is the purchase of these beauties that is goading me into getting on with finishing this project. Well, that and the fact that I need to crack on with it before she grows more and I end up with a winter coat in the middle of summer, that she’ll probably be too big for by then!!

My lovely buttons!
