Hi, I’m H. From Nottingham, UK. I recently joined the ‘New Mummy’ club and as such have been beavering away and getting all creative making baby clothes for my daughter Ellie. A few reasons for this; firstly I love creating and have always tinkered with the sewing machine – halloween costumes, altering hemlines etc. But with working full time I never had enough hours available to really get into designing and making my own things until now. Secondly I was struggling to find clothes that fit well over cloth nappies, especially trousers. Another bugbear – most of the shop-bought dresses don’t seem to come with any bloomers and I think the nappy hanging out really spoils some of the lovely frocks that Ellie has. Thirdly, I was surprised at the cost of baby clothes – a pair of jeans for baby costs the same as a pair for me! I can buy a metre of denim for the same price and get at least 4 pairs out of that whilst she is so small (I have also recycled some of my old pairs into her fabric stash – even cheaper!). Finally (!) I not only get to indulge my creative side by designing my own unique outfits but I get a regular sense of achievement – lots of patting myself on the back for creating another fashion masterpiece
. I find that making baby clothes is much more rewarding than adult projects – not only does it take a lot less time to whip up a project from the initial idea through to finished product, I can also get away with splurging on some fantastic fabrics to work with as I only need small quantities. I have had many compliments on lots of Ellie’s clothes that I have designed and made myself (I am a self-taught, hobby sewer) and as such I decided to tart up my patterns on the computer, ready for publication (no more hand-scribbled shapes!) and start this website to share and promote them. I’d also like to fill this site with details of projects I’m currently working on as well as sharing some of my free patterns and tips and tricks along the way as I construct Ellie’s Wardrobe each season.

Thanks very much for the template. I have decided to try to make my own poncho towel for my 6 year old son, he is very tall for his age & the shop brought ones are far to short & dont really cover him very well . I am not that great with a sewing machine so not sure how it will turn out but will give it a go . LOL
Don’t worry – I’m no seamstress either – hence my patterns are pretty simple to make when they are broken down. The only thing to watch out for with the towel is to finish the raw edges (you’ll soon see why after the first wash if you don’t – tangled fraying thread mess); either overlock or stitch them under as I did. Also you may find that where the seams cross over that the machine struggles (I have a hait of using speed – give the needle a run up lol) to push through bulk but it may be prudent to use a new needle and lubricate it a’ la quilters. Have a go though – there is always a way to use some artistic license and make things work out. The towels are great when made up – ours have been washed twice weekly (swimming chlorine) and all the edges are still unfrayed and best of all – the towels cover everything (unlike an expensive wrap-around hooded effort that I bought on a whim).
